ICV volunteers clean up Australia
On Sunday 7 March ICV volunteers got together with Aboriginal people in the ACT and the Northern Territory to Clean up Australia.
ICV to give evidence to Parliamentary inquiry into Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander juvenile involvement in the criminal justice system
On 11 March, ICV CEO Gregory Andrews and Advocacy and Fund Raising Manager Stephanie Harvey will give evidence to the House of Representatives’ inquiry into Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander juvenile involvement in the criminal justice system. ICV will present the petition it has collected expressing concern for this issue and calling on the Government to address it. Over 500 people have signed the petition to date.
99 per cent of communities would invite ICV back
ICV’s Project Impact Analysis for the first six months of 2009-10 has shown that 99 per cent of ICV’s clients would invite us back. This is strong evidence of the value and impact that our volunteers are achieving.

Kimberley community engagement
In February, ICV’s Regional Coordinator in the Kimberley conducted a community engagement visit in its East. Rosanna Angus, a local Bardi woman from One Arm Point in the North West, engaged with women’s centres, art centres, CDEP providers, health centres, and other organisations at Warmun community, Halls Creek, Koonjie Park Station, Nicholson Park, Kununurra, and Doon Doon Community. New ICV projects varied from literacy and governance training, to vegetable gardening, solar energy, tourism, health promotion, and alcohol management. Rosanna was accompanied by Nicola Morrison from ICV’s Perth office. Shell Australia generously supports ICV’s presence in the Kimberley. Rosanna has initiated over 100 projects in the Kimberley over the past year. Thanks to radio station KNX for providing this recording.

Community story
A stitch in time
A group of women in Palumpa in the Northern Territory learnt the art of sewing and gained a new wardrobe as part of a community-driven ICV project. The project helped revitalise the Palumpa Women’s Centre. The volunteers also ran an informal school holidays art program for local school children.
