Creating short films/bio’s & uploading onto web sites, QLD Project Number 1741N/08
The Organisation has requested the assistance of an ICV volunteer to support local Aboriginal young people develop video material, histories, stories & creative material, and upload this material onto the Organisation's web page. The Organisation has requested such a project to develop the skills of the young people in their area, as well as to document area history. The project will commence during the second semester of the school term in 2009 and will run for approx. 3 weeks.

Horse Riding, Cattle Mustering & Animal Management, Rural North Qld
Project Number 1688N/08
A rural Aboriginal organisation has requested a skill transfer in Horse Riding, Cattle Mustering and Animal Management in preparation for the next local cattle muster envisaged for November/December. The Project will commence as soon as a suitable volunteer has been matched and selected for a duration to be negotiated between the Community and Volunteer. The skills gained will be utilised in further developing the Organisation to later become a self sufficient cattle station, providing training and employment opportunities to the local Indigenous community.

Fencing, NT Project Number 1742N/08
The community has requested various skills in order for them to develop a fruit and vegetable garden. The Community require someone skilled in the area of fencing to build a fence around the garden. The volunteer would be required to work in hot conditions, establishing a large fence around the garden bed. The Community has identified the need for them to produce their own fruit and vegetables as the nearest shop in 50km away, and is expensive to purchase fresh produce. If this project is successful, a duplicate garden will be established. Due to the isolation, the community has recommended that more than one volunteer visit the Community at a time for this project. The volunteers will work alongside the Land Custodian and his 3 sons. Conditions are extremely hot, and only volunteers willing to really “rough it” are encouraged to apply.

Horticulturalist, NT Project Number 1742N/08
The community has requested various skills in order for them to develop a fruit and vegetable garden. The community requires the skills of a gardener/horticulturalist to identify what produce they can grow in the area, and transfer their skills onto the local Aboriginal people. They also require someone skilled in the area of fencing to build a fence around the garden. Also needed is a plumber, able to install a timed sprinkler system. The Community has identified the need for them to produce their own fruit and vegetables as the nearest shop in 50km away, and is expensive to purchase fresh produce. If this project is successful, a duplicate garden will be established. Due to the isolation, the community has recommended that more than one volunteer visit the Community at a time for this project. The volunteers will work alongside the Land Custodian and his 3 sons. Conditions are extremely hot, and only volunteers willing to really “rough it” are encouraged to apply.

Horticulture Gravity feeding,  NT Central Desert Project Number 1685N/08
The community wish to set up a market garden and require a volunteer with skills in reticulation and gravity feeding. The community would like the volunteer to assist with the initial setup so as they can add to the market garden themselves. There are several community members keen to learn the skills involved. The project is considered to take 4 weeks to complete.

Administration

Office administration, financial & small business management WA
Project Number 1639N/08
A remote community in the eastern Goldfields/edge of Nullarbor of WA is seeking volunteers with experience in office administration, financial management and knowledge of running a community store. A number of (six) community members wish to gain skills that will help them manage an office how to manage budgets, handle money, manage staff, inventory and records to improve the viability of the community and the store. Skills gained would be utilised to manage the community through sound management practices. Initial the project will be for between 3-4 weeks with a view to extending the project if further skills transfer is required.

Administration Qld Project Number 1730N/08
A remote community has requested assistance in the areas of Administration, as part of their commitment to strengthening governance issues within the organisation and developing their service to meet the requirements of the Community.  Training in these areas will greatly impact the Corporations operations and practices, ensuring that the community justice group members can effectively run their offices. The volunteer will work directly with the CJG’s to ensure that they can perform their statutory duties in the local courts and communities. The members are volunteers.

Service Management Governance, WA Project Number 1550N/08
A co-ordinator of a health service would like to refresh/enhance skills required to manage a health service, as such has requested assistance in all areas of service management and skills associated with running a health service effectively.  These skills would include: organisational and community planning, financial management, staff management, organisational governance The project is expected to be an ongoing mentoring role with the volunteer spending the initial 5 weeks assisting and transferring skills to the co–coordinator on a day to day basis or to the extent of the availability of the volunteer.  After this initial stage, support may be provided on a more ad hoc basis and may even be through email and phone contact.

An urban-rural indigenous housing corporation in the Top End is seeking a volunteer to assist it to establish a small business providing worthwhile services to its clients. The volunteer will need small business management skills. The project is expected to commence mid 2009 with duration three to four weeks. The Willandra Lakes Region is a World Heritage Site that covers 2,400 square kilometres in south-western New South Wales.  The Aboriginal community has requested a transfer of skills in the following areas;

Broad Hectare Site & Business Planning & Designing, Victoria Project Number 1763N/08
A retail store and Indigenous cultural centre near Bendigo has requested a Broad Hectare Site & Business Planning & Designing project in line with the expansion of the Business for the tourism market. The Business has been operating for three and a half years and currently consists of a permanent retail store, a mobile retail shop and a horse riding/rodeo training centre. The retail shops’ stock includes clothing, saddlery, giftware, furniture, rodeo equipment and sheds. An expansion of the retail business is currently underway with the creation of an online store. The selected volunteer(s) will assist the owner in developing site plans and designs for the purpose of creating an outback tourist attraction.

Submission writing & scoping project, QLD Project Number 1732N/08
The Organisation has requested the assistance of an ICV volunteer to assist staff and the community seek funding from private and Government sectors. The organisation would like the volunteer to identify bodies, both private and public that they can apply to for funding. They have requested this assistance to aid them in creating a sustainable future. The volunteer will be expected to run a scoping exercise to identify bodies that the organisation can apply to for funding. Along side this, they will also be expected to skill the organisation in submission writing. The volunteer will train the staff members of the organisation. The project will commence as soon as a suitable volunteer is found, and will run for approx. 2 weeks.

Strategic Planning WA Project Number 1632N/08
This Aboriginal Corporation have requested the skills transfer/development in strategic planning, they have requested the skills transfer process to enhance the abilities of corporation members to develop strategic plans. The corporation members would like to use skills gained to develop strategic plans to provide the community with direction in to the future. Opportunities exist for the corporation and community to form various partnerships with business and companies with in their region. The focus of the strategic plans is to provide direction for the corporation and community in terms of engaging present and future financial opportunities. The volunteer would be expected to assist community with their strategic plan whilst transferring skills in strategic planning, implementing mile stones and ensuring the corporation participants understand each step of the plan. There are six members of the corporation willing to be involved in the skills transfer process. The community envisage the project to run for 4-8 weeks commencing October 2008.

An Indigenous corporation would like a skills transfer project conducted on Business Planning which will also include some finance training in MYOB, B.A.S, Superannuation and Submission Writing etc.The volunteer will be expected to teach the staff skills in Business Planning and Finance.

The Corporation requests  a volunteer that can help them with business planning skills, bookkeeping, strategic planning and some minor governance training. The corporation has asked for this help so that as the Traditional Land Owners they can acquire new skills that will assist them in planning for the future and to run successful businesses. The volunteer will train the Chairperson and 5 board members from the corporation. The corporation hopes to acquire the skills needed to plan for their future and to make good business decisions to form successful businesses that will be sustainable.

This Aboriginal Corporation would like to gain skills in the area of Business planning, the corporation would like to develop a business plan and related business skills related to providing cultural awareness training as a profit making business. As there are various companies and business with in their region that request and require cultural awareness training for their employees. Various businesses and companies have approached the corporation requesting the development and delivery of cultural awareness programs with in the region. The volunteer would be expected transfer skills in Business planning to members of the Aboriginal Corporation. This Aboriginal Corporation is a family owned and operated business.  They have a long association with Aboriginal Cultural Tourism at Lake Mungo.  They are seeking a skills transfer to enable them to develop and submit their own business plans in the future.  The estimated timeframe for this project is approximately 4 weeks.

A small artifact manufacturing business would like assistance with skills transfer relating to business management.  This would include basic bookkeeping, accounting and office systems.  The first stage of the project would start in February and should take approximately 4 weeks.

Grant Writing,  KIMBERLEY WA Project Number 1503N/08
This Language Resource Centre have requested assistance in researching funding grants and writing submissions to provide the service with a clear procedure and skills in preparing grant applications.  The centre has requested this assistance to develop/enhance staff abilities in researching grants and developing successful submissions to increase their resources and increase the effectiveness of their operations.  The volunteer would be expected to transfer skills in grants research and submission writing primarily to apply for funds for further development of two of their offices, to purchase audio visual equipment as well as upgrading their service vehicle.

There are four staff members willing to be trained.

Business development,  Midwest WA Project Number 1519/08
This Aboriginal Corporation have requested skills transfer in Business development re: Relationship Building, Supervision of consultants and building the capacity of the corporation. The corporation have requested assistance to build the capacity of the corporation so as they can effectively manage, lead and direct the corporation towards its vision as per the corporation’s strategic plan. The volunteer would be expected to transfer skills in the areas of Governance, business development, relationship building and the establishment of Joint venture partnerships. The corporation would like to gain a volunteer on a long term engagement (Governance) over a six month period; there are four (4) corporation members willing to be trained.

Governance & Feasibility Studies, Queensland Project Number 1726N/08
The Organisation has requested a skills transfer in Governance and feasibility studies. The Aboriginal Corporation is currently in the process of purchasing a crocodile and barramundi farm. They would like feasibility studies undertaken to distinguish the viability of the purchase. The volunteer will be expected to have strong skills in the area of governance, to educate the Board members of the Organisation in running a successful business and the skills to do this. Along with this, the volunteer will be expected to undertake feasibility studies on a number of acquisitions that the Organisation owns, or is looking to purchase. The volunteer will train members of the board and staff members in governance and feasibility studies.

Governance & Strategic Planning, QLD Project Number 1461N/07
This incorporated body has requested governance & strategic planning training on organisational management. The volunteer would work with both staff members and the management committee to enhance their knowledge about good governance models. The management committee would also like a workshop session on interpretation of their organisations constitution. The outcome from this project will enable the organisation to develop a strategic plan. The project duration is estimated to be 2 weeks minimum.

Governance Training, Pilbara WA Project Number 1571N/08
An art group have requested assistance in Governance training in order to build the capacity of the Board to determine and drive decisions and lead the organisation. The volunteer would be required to transfer a range of Governance skills directly to the Centre’s Board members. This will better equip the Board to act as the governing body, provide board members with greater understanding of their roles and what will be required of them in terms of governing a service effectively. There are four members of the RAG board who are willing to be part of the skills transfer process.

The Organisation has requested the assistance of an ICV volunteer to aid them in redeveloping their website.  The Organisation currently has a web site, but would like it to be more interactive. The volunteer will work alongside the Community in redeveloping the Organisations existing web site and re-structuring it to better suit the Organisational needs.  This project will commence as soon as a suitable volunteer is found, and will run for approx. 3 weeks.

Website Management, Brisbane Project Number 1626N08
An Aboriginal owned and managed consultancy business would like the assistance of a volunteer to develop his understanding and ability to utilise the functions of his current website. The business has an online web business that is capable of online marketing; the programme used is wiki Business. The aim of this project is for the consultant to become proficient in wiki Business, thus enabling him to manage his website and use it functions to market his business online.

Website Design, Eastern Region, NSW project number 1417N/07
A group of Aboriginal Medical Services request a volunteer to do a skill share project with their organisations to assist in the planning, development and creation of a website. It is envisaged that the website highlight the services provided by the health services, their locations and upcoming events. The volunteer will work one on one with an employee to transfer skills, culminating in a website that the organisation can update as required.

Internet Café setup , NT Project Number 1569N/08
A remote community in the Northern Territory would like to establish an internet café in their community so that community members can access information and resources more effectively. The community would like a volunteer who can provide knowledge to community members regarding how to establish an internet café, use of the internet and basic computer maintenance so that computers remain operational and connected to the internet. The volunteer will transfer skills to a number of CDEP participants. The community would like a volunteer for a 4 – 8 week period and are willing to negotiate a time with the volunteer.

Web Design, Kimberley WA Project Number 1502N/08
A language resource centre has requested assistance in Web design.  They have requested this assistance to gain skills in designing a new website for the organisation where they can promote the services.  The volunteer will be expected to transfer skills in the design of a web page and training on the maintenance of the web page.  There are for members willing to be trained.  The service envisages the skills transfer process to take 4-6 weeks.

Housing is in short supply in and around this “Top End” community. The Corporation are keen to develop a housing strategy in the community to improve housing accessibility. A volunteer with experience and skills in housing development is required to skill share with the local people in developing research skills to access the viability of such a development and to assist with identifying the process involved.

An Aboriginal Corporation in East Arnhem Land have Identified an efficient, reliable and affordable transport system between communities as essential to enhance access to the area and improve service delivery. A volunteer is required to skill share with the local members to research the viability of a transport business that will provide access to coastal communities and mainland towns by road and ferry.

A Top End Aboriginal Corporation have requested a volunteer with skills in retail sales development. This could be a volunteer who has had experience of a large to medium sized shopping centre, who could pass on ideas to members of the corporation who are interested in starting their own business. This would also involve some basic training on such subjects as Merchandising, Customer service, staff relations, advertising, Display, stock rotation ratios, inventory management and Staff training. While also preparing  lease arrangements and contracts. There are several members of the corporation who wish to be trained in this field.

Material Specification and Construction Supervision, Qld, Project Number 1739N/08
A remote Indigenous Organisation has requested a building supervisor and plumber to work with the traditional owners to build two camping grounds located in the Injinoo region. A volunteer(s) are sought to specify materials to develop a materials list, and project manage the building of two camping grounds located in the Injinoo region in consultation with the project applicant with assistance from a local Indigenous work crew. Building plans have been designed for the dwellings to be erected on the camping grounds aligned with the Traditional Owners specifications. The project can be delivered either in a part-time or full-time capacity as negotiated between the Community and Volunteer.

Refurbishment, South West WA Project Number 1403N/07
This association has requested skills transfer in the area of refurbishments. The association would like a volunteer who has the ability to assess the cost of refurbishing older buildings, develop reports on resources and cost required for the refurbishment and have the ability to carry out the work required for the refurbishment and pass these skills. The association has requested the skills transferral in this area to assist community members and CDEP workers gain the ability to make appropriate decisions in the refurbishment of existing building with in the community.

Home renovation – carpentry, plastering and painting, Project Number 1735N/08
An Aboriginal Corporation owns a house in a remote town inland in the Midwest Region of WA. This house has been empty for a while and has sustained some damages. Most of the damages are only cosmetic (walls etc). The Corporation wants to use CDEP workers who are interested in learning home renovation skills such carpentry, plastering and painting to have an opportunity to develop new skills from an experienced person. There will be up to four CDEP participants involved in the skill transfer project. It is anticipated that the project will take 4-8 weeks to complete.

House Painting,  PILBARA WA Project Number 1581N/08
This Aboriginal community have requested transferral of skills in the area of painting houses externally, the community family groups will then used the skills gained to paint their family homes internally. They have requested this assistance to develop/enhance community family member’s abilities in preparation, mixing and painting houses internally and externally. The volunteer would be expected to transfer skills in the area of external house paining, minor repairs to surfaces in preparation for painting. The volunteer will transfer skills to community family members at individual dwellings with in the community, family members will then use the skills gained to paint the interior of their homes. The community envisage the project to run for a six week period. The community have all the resources required to make their project successful.

Building and Plumbing, Eastern Region, Far North QLD Project Number 1520N/08
An Aboriginal Corporation has requested a skills transfer in Building Construction and Plumbing. The location is at a campground and involves the construction of two restroom kits.
The selected volunteer will work alongside 5 members of the community and be staying in basic accommodation at the campgrounds. Current licenses are required for both trade areas. This project is for 4 – 6 weeks.

Machine Operations,  Kimberly WA Project Number 1322N/07
The Community have requested a volunteer to transfer skills in operating machinery.  They want to have Community members trained in using machinery, safe work practices, provide employment outcomes.  The volunteer will be expected to train the Community to operate earth moving equipment i.e. bob cat, backhoe, dozer, grader, loader.

Building Skills,  Bakers Hill near Northam – WA. Project Number 1354N/07
A family Corporation who are managing a farm in the Avon Region of WA wish to request a volunteer with building skills.  In particular, they want a volunteer who can work with the committee to draw up the building plan (including resources and materials needed, liaise with the shire etc), coordinate the project which will include training members of the family to build 2 sheds/workshops, successfully place 2 transportable homes on property and make a breezeway (including setting up the site/concreting).  The project will be carried out in 2/3 stages beginning in August 2007.  It could take 3-6 months to complete.
